Precarious Workers - Self Care Checklist

  • not securely held or in position; dangerously likely to fall or collapse.

  • dependent on chance; uncertain.

  • uncertain, insecure, unreliable, unsure, unpredictable, undependable, risky, hazardous, dangerous, unsafe, hanging by a thread, hanging in the balance, perilous, treacherous, on a slippery slope, on thin ice, touch-and-go, built on sand, doubtful, dubious, delicate, tricky, problematic; More unsettled, unstable, unsteady, shaky, rocky, wobbly;

  • safe, secure

'Not securely held in position'? 'Likely to fall or collapse'? Precarious worker? Sounds like an euphemism for 'Artist' right?!

Rachel Dobbs is an artist and educator & one half of artist collaboration LOW PROFILE. She has created a brilliant Self Care Checklist for precarious workers. I think it should be stuck on most, if not all, Artist's fridges. She based this comprehensive checklist upon the words of Sheila Laghelani who wrote some thoughts from her studio on self care - look here for Sheila's original text.

Rachel has created an amazing downloadable and printable visual checklist that is "designed as a pause for reflection, a chance to take stock before saying “yes” and a personal safety check to see whether it would be better to say “no” ". Go to her blog and see for yourself and to get a downloadable copy. It's going on my fridge now!
